Two Parties and a Thunderstorm

A few months ago I wrote a post entitled “Three Funerals and a Wedding”. It was one of my most popular blogs. You can read it here. The wedding was in Panama in March. Layce was Justine’s very good friend and roommate and was away on a cruise with Benyi when Justine was killed in a car accident. Layce met Benyi in Panama when she and her family vacationed there a few years ago. Benyi is from Panama and Layce lives there now too.  Layce and Benyi invited us to their wedding where we spent the entire week at a gorgeous resort with her family and friends.

The party was a big reunion because Layce has brought Benyi to Canada for the very first time. They had to get eleven legal documents for him to enter Canada. Benyi is an engineer and there is an extremely small chance he will become an illegal immigrant. Layce’s brothers flew in from Calgary and Belgium for the event. It was quite an international crowd.

Layce’s cousin, Emily hosted the outdoor bar-b-que at her lakeside retreat. We have had the hottest, driest summer on record. Yesterday ended that dry spell. It rained for an hour; torrential rain bordering on tornado style winds. A tornado did touch down nearby. It didn’t put a damper on our visit though. It was so nice to see everyone again.

After we enjoyed the company and food, we drove home to dry our clothes and headed back out to party number two. Our nephew, Charlie had a surprise party for his wife, Jessica who turned 40. It was a fun dance party in a rented hall. We saw many of our relatives and friends. We had a great day and evening despite the rain.
