It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas 

I’ve procrastinated decorating my house for the holidays this year. I just did it today with a week until Christmas. I don’t really mind getting the halls decked but the thought of putting it all away hangs over me. In fact I was grumbling about this very thing last year. You can read that here. I don’t feel that sense of dread this year however. I have the whole week after New Years off this year so I’ll have plenty of time.

  2. Lovely – thanks for sharing your photos. More an angel & Claus girl myself, I’ve never collected snowmen — but I used to do a village when I lived in a big house in another state. Now I don’t have the surface or shelf space for that kind of display — at least not down low enough for anyone to enjoy it. 🙂

    So I gave all my houses and little trees & people to a colleague for whom the village was a HUGE part of Christmas for her and her grown son. (The mother of whom I spoke in the featured story on “My 2016 Birthday Prayer” — so she hasn’t been in much of a mood to put it up since her son’s murder). I feel certain we will both enjoy it again some day – but it will be in HER space, not my own.

    Taking things DOWN is always a struggle for me, too – mostly because have to take everything down stairs to a dark and dingy basement where each tenant here has a private storage “roomlet.” I actually sort-of enjoy the process of organizing everything for next year’s celebration in moisture-proof plastic totes by room and type. Figuring out how to organize the totes in my basement space, what really can’t go to the basement, and making notes about what’s where? Not so much.

    But it is oh-so-festive when its up and beautiful, it somehow inspires us to do it every year, despite the after-the-ball agita.

    1. Thanks for your note Madelyn. I have many angel ornaments but haven’t put up a decorated tree in years. The snowmen belong to my daughter, Candice and we’re all given to her by her godparents every year. She doesn’t have room and with a 21 month old baby she wouldn’t put them out anyway. I think she likes seeing them here. My dining room table is the Santa location. I didn’t take a pic of that but may later.

      1. I have NO idea how to connect my phone to my blog (and no inclination to take the time to figure it out, given everything else) – so I really love seeing the photos of the decor in other peoples houses.

        I had hoped to start a nutcracker collection for my nephews – but that was my dream, not theirs. 🙂 How lovely that Candice was able to keep the collection gifted by her godparents.

        I’ll be looking forward to seeing more — even if it doesn’t happen until minutes before you take it all down.

      4. Many years ago I struggled mightily leaning to touch-type rapidly (peaking at 75 wpm) so, like most of us who learned to type on IBM Selectric typewriters, my tactile keyboard and life-sized monitor are my best computer tool buddies.

        I’ve been “thinking through my fingers” for so long now, I’m not really willing to struggle through teaching my fingers new tricks sans tactile feedback, or the frustration of comparative turtle-speeds, even if I owned an iPad. (Shoot – I haven’t even had time and cognitive bandwidth enough to finger out how to use my Kindle!)

        When things calm down a bit, I may investigate the app for uploading photos to my blog and email – so thanks for letting me know it exists.

      6. You have a GREAT DEAL more patience for that sort of thing than I, my dear – not to mention focus ability.

        When deliberate attention shifts to mechanics vs. content, I get lost and can barely write a sentence, much less a coherent paragraph. An entire book would *never* happen, and I’d probably stop blogging altogether to do something ELSE with my time, were that the only way to do it.

        But then, I know writers who swear by pen and paper, and hire someone to transcribe. Whatever works!

  5. hi Cathy 🙂 I’ve been feeling a bit down about Christmas and it all seems a bit overdone in UK, too commercial and hyped up so early and then when it’s actually Christmastime the radio stops playing the tunes as they played them too long too soon and it all seems so spoilt. [So I can’t help but seem like the Grinch or McScrooge it must seem!] Obviously it must be a difficult time for so many of us for so many different and/or similar reasons. So, I just wanted to say you made a lovely antedotal post here and thank you for sharing your pics. I’m struggling a bit to catch up with blog-reading but will get back when i can. Here’s hoping you have a wonderful Christmas time/winter holidays and best wishes to you and your family.
