What Do You Watch?

I don’t watch much television. I have an IPad and mostly binge watch entire series or movies. I do like “trash TV” however. I like the “Bachelor/Bachelorette”shows, “Big Brother” Canada and US. These silly shows give me something to do all winter and I’ve watched them for years.

On Netflix I have watched all of “Orange Is The New Black”, “Wentworth”, “House of Cards”, “How To Get Away With Murder” and “Rita”.  There are other shows that I must get back to like “Downton Abby” and “Bloodline” that I have started but not finished. I do prefer binge watching. If I don’t, then I forget to watch them.

My daughter tapes shows that we watch together when I go to her house for the weekend. These are shows I never watch at home. “Dateline NBC”and “Judge Judy” are 2 of them. Candice doesn’t watch these shows usually either but we look forward to watching them together after my grandson has gone to sleep.

I think shows are mostly habits or rituals that give us comfort. Most of us fondly remember shows from our childhood that bring warm feelings. We share the timeline with people we watched them with or with people that are our age, and we have that in common.

What are some of your favourite shows?

  1. If you can stomach it, Hannibal is a highly intelligent (and GORGEOUSLY shot) show, one of my favorites.
Sherlock, if you don’t mind waiting literal years between seasons. Another visually brilliant show.
Pseudo-off-beat comedies; Parks and Rec, Community, 30 Rock, Newsradio. I also love animation, Adventure Time and Steven Universe (ESPECIALLY Steven Universe) are WONDERFUL right now.

  2. This is such a great idea! I don’t watch much tv in the spring/summer and just renewed my Netflix during the xmas holidays (let the laziness begin!) Just watched Grace and Frankie pilot – Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. Too funny. Love those girls. And started to watch Jessica Jones (supernatural?) because a fellow blogger suggested it (Lydia/aidyl93). Love that one too.

  3. Oh I agree with your thoughts: “I think shows are mostly habits or rituals that give us comfort. Most of us fondly remember shows from our childhood that bring warm feelings.”
I am not a TV watcher for quite a long time now. 🙂 I prefer books and movies but I loved watching America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway before! 😀

  4. Sherlock, Homeland, Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, True Detective
Have replaced watching any TV News with DVD’s from our library of some of the British Series. The Sweeney, Midsummer Murders, Inspector Morse.
This has become a new ‘ritual.’
All my best to you Cathy.
