I had written a post on Facebook a few years ago.
I did some research to find out who had written the original quote. It is by Aproorve Dubey from his book entitled The Flight Of Ambition
“The price tag you put on yourself decides your worth. Underestimating yourself will cost you dearly.”~Aproorve Dubey
I really like the analogy of self-worth and a price tag. So often we think badly of ourselves or put ourselves down. We don’t think we’re worth anything…worthless! Maybe we’ve been told that as children or maybe we’ve just come to view ourselves that way.
I had not written the original post but I like that the person said to
“Get off the clearance rack and behind the glass where they keep the valuables.”
Are you on the bargain rack at Walmart or sparkling behind the glass at Tiffany’s? This is not about how much money you have. It’s about your self worth, your value as a human being. How much do you value yourself?
If we put a higher price tag on ourselves then other people will value us. We will gain the respect we deserve. Dollar Store or Jewellery Store? Pizza parlour or fine dining restaurant? Bates Motel or Trump Towers?
What is your price tag?
Powerful words! Eye-opening quote. This is great, Cathy! This is so true. 🙂

I think we need to tell ourselves these things more often; I am valuable and priceless. Beautiful post Cathy 🙂

Ah, this is such a fantastic post Cathy. Sometimes people make a thoughtless passing comment that has machine gunned our self-worth, it happens all the time, to reflect on our self-worth from time to time and give ourselves a little pat on the back is priceless. My blog is my little attempt at that pat on my back. I try to make it as pretty, cheerful, and welcoming as possible 🙂

That’s a very good way of putting it by referring to a price tag. Never thought of it like that!

That is a great quote and post. Writers are their own worst critics sometimes. “My book isn’t selling, it must be terrible, why do I even do this, I should just give up…” At least that’s what us fiction writers do! (Insecure Writers Support Group members polled!) I am going to remember this the next time I get down on myself. If I don’t value myself, why would anyone else?

It seems to have hit a nerve. I’ve been finding that many bloggers are self-depreciating. Put a high price tag on yourself!

Yes you did! But glad you reminded us to take value in ourselves.

I love this. It could be a useful tool for gauging changes in your our self esteem. We ‘know’ that we should be priceless but maybe we feel a little bargain basement today. When it comes to ‘real world’ work too, how often do we under value our services – especially when we set our own prices.
