People say I’m strong. I have to agree because I refuse to let troubles get me down or change me in any way. I try to remain positive, despite life’s ups and downs. I have used this quote many times since my daughter, Justine was killed in a car accident last year. It explains exactly how I feel. We can let our personal problems define us or can choose to move forward and use them to make us strong.
My sister has just lost her husband. Yesterday was the celebration of his life. It really was a celebration. Although there were many tears, we all turned our sorrow around and remembered Bob’s zest for life. His brother, Murray (who was my history teacher 43 years ago) encouraged everyone to live each day, rather than wishing it away. I’ve tried and will continue to do this. I feel it’s a way to honour those who have left us. They don’t want us to be sad for the rest of our lives. I know I don’t want my family and friends to be unhappy when I die.
Here is a song I like about being brave.
inspiring! I agree with this totally!

“We can let our personal problems define us or can choose to move forward and use them to make us strong. ”
This is a statement that bears much truth. But I feel grief can define us, it is our place to hold onto that new definition of ourselves and carry it for the rest of our lives.
((hugz)) and more ((hugz))
I lost my Bear last year, and in the face of what happened, everyone said I was so strong, the strongest person they ever knew, but in the light of the situation, I had no other choice but to stand up and keep going.
The circumstances and consequences of that loss will never leave me, I will always be different now, and I do not feel it is strength that is what makes me different.
The burden of grief has made me tough, not strong.

I think we can use tough in place of strong in these situations. And as the quote states, what other choice do we have?

Hallo Cathy 🙂 A celebration of life is such a wonderful tribute in memory of a loved one or friend who has passed. I clicked the song at the end, expecting Bob Marley 🙂 Never heard of this songstress but thanks for sharing. Best wishes to you and your family.

Idina Mendes is a Broadway actress and singer from “Wicked” and other plays. She’s the voice of one of the characters from “Frozen” and sings the famous song, “Let It Go” that I’m sure you’ve heard of. I honestly never thought of a Bob Marley song but I was looking for another song I like about being brave.

The song is beautiful. Sometimes I wonder if I’m supposed to be strong enough to lift a buick; I should be by now. 🙂 And of course they say, “What doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger.”
